Overview

WHAT IS CATIA?

CATIA is one of Computer Aided Design tool which is developed  by the French design company Dassault Systems. From 1981 to today six different type of CATIA was developed. The most common version is Catia V5. With Catia you can design machine parts, automobiles, planes, boats, turbine and their blades even household goods. It is fun to learn, easy to install.

UNDERSTANDING CATIA INTERFACE

When we open Catia first, we see a screen like below:









After, click to “Start” and select “Part Design”

Press “OK” and continue (if you want, you can change part name)


                            






Mouse Basics 


  • MB1 button is to active the selected objects.
  • If you hold down MB1 or MB2 button and wheel simultaneously, you can rotate in X-Y-Z axis.
  • If you hold down only mouse wheel, the object move on selected axis.
  • To zoom in-out, hold down mouse wheel and click one time to MB1. 
  • Another option for zoom is; hold down "CTRL" and move the mouse wheel.






COMPASS at CATIA

  • The default plane is: XY.
  •        During assembling, Mock-Up or defining a plane you will need to use             compass

  • The compass is parallel to X-Y-Z axis
  • If you lost compass click to ” view” from menu and select compass
